Renowned physician and women’s hormone specialist Dr Louise Newson is set to appear at Bournemouth Pavilion in 2026 with a new live show exploring the science and controversy surrounding hormones.
The event, titled Breaking the Cycle: The Power of Hormones, follows her successful 2024 theatre tour and will see Dr Newson take to the Pavilion stage to examine what she describes as widespread misunderstanding about how hormones work and their impact on health.
Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate many of the body’s core functions, including growth, metabolism, mood, sexual and reproductive health, sleep and blood pressure. They influence how people feel physically and emotionally, yet confusion remains about their role and about the differences between naturally produced and synthetic hormones, such as some contraceptives available on prescription.
At Bournemouth Pavilion, Dr Newson will explore the biology of hormones and consider why debate and uncertainty persist in both public and medical discussions. The show will also look at the history of hormone research, including the treatment of menopause, and will question past medical practice and policy.
Often referred to as “the medic who kick-started the menopause revolution”, Dr Newson has become one of the UK’s most prominent voices in women’s health. Through her podcast, books, the Balance app and educational events, she has campaigned for improved awareness, research and access to treatment.
The evening at Bournemouth Pavilion will combine scientific explanation with personal stories and audience participation, including a question-and-answer session.
Dr Newson says the aim of the show is to encourage people to better understand their bodies and to feel more confident discussing hormone-related health concerns.
