Take a sneak peek at the brand-new West End production of Barnum, arriving at Bournemouth Pavilion this June.
The beloved musical is set to transform the Pavilion into a dazzling big top, with West End star and TV favourite Lee Mead taking the lead. Now, new production images show the production in all-singing, all-dancing technicolour.
Mead steps into the shoes of the legendary 19th-century showman P. T. Barnum, bringing his larger-than-life charm to the Dorset stage in a show packed with spectacle, heart, and thrilling circus-style stunts - including the infamous tightrope walk.
The actor shot to stardom with his breakout win on BBC’s Any Dream Will Do, going on to earn acclaim for his performances in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Wicked and Legally Blonde. Now he steps into one of musical theatre’s most demanding leading roles - a part that requires not just vocal power but charisma, stamina and circus showmanship.
Bursting with acrobatics, showstopping choreography and toe-tapping tunes, Barnum tells the extraordinary story of 19th-century showman P. T. Barnum - the dreamer who turned spectacle into an art form and proved that imagination can build an empire.
From tightrope walkers crossing the stage to whirlwind ensemble numbers packed with circus flair, this production leans fully into the thrill of live performance. Audiences can expect bold costumes, larger-than-life characters and the kind of theatrical magic that only a West-End performance can deliver.
At its heart, though, Barnum is a love story - following Barnum’s partnership with his steadfast wife Charity as ambition, fame and risk threaten to pull them in different directions. It’s big, brassy and unapologetically joyful, but there’s real heart beating beneath the sequins.
Featuring crowd-pleasing numbers including “Come Follow the Band” and “The Colours of My Life,” the score blends Broadway brass with circus energy, creating a soundtrack that’s as infectious as it is uplifting.
Since its original Broadway run, Barnum has remained a firm favourite for theatre fans who love their musicals bold, bright and just a little bit daring.
Barnum will take up residence at Bournemouth Pavilion from 12 – 16 June 2026, with tickets on sale now via bournemouthpavilion.co.uk
