LOL Comedy Club returns to the Pavilion Ballroom this May with another great line-up of comedians! Join us on Friday 24 May 2024 for a fantastic night of comedy from Paul Pirie, Aaron Simmonds, Daniel Edison and Ben Briggs (MC). Click here to book tickets.

Paul Pirie

Paul Pirie began his stand-up career after giving up acting to pursue the funny man that lies within, quickly establishing himself on the Scottish comedy circuit as long ago as 2004. It should be pointed out that at the time he was living with his gran, having given away the keys to his flat in a pub quiz.

Soon after that he was awarded runner up in the prestigious annual awards for Scottish Comedian of the Year making him the (second) funniest comedian in Scotland! Since then he’s gone from strength to strength and right now is on fire enjoying the best comedic from of his life.

“His clowning and quick fire gags will win him fans.. his physical mannerisms have a touch of Eric Morecambe” The Daily Record

A physical, theatrical presence on stage, his sharp, rapid-fire comedy onslaught is packed with highly entertaining material, which blurs the lines between real-life anecdotes and flight of fancy. Its been observed that he channels the late Robin Williams at his most excitable, and despite still being relatively young himself he's also been likened to Eric Morecambe of 'Morecambe & Wise'.

“Inherently funny” Edinburgh Guide

A confident and intelligent comedian who makes it his mission to work and entertain his audience, his material is superbly individual and delivers a refreshing burst of laugh out loud comedy that leaves audiences in raptures. Paul's hilarity and comedic ability has earned him huge popularity with comedy goers and bookers across the world, gigging as far abroad as Australia and even for The Armed Forces.

Make no mistake, he’s one of those acts you never forget!

Aaron Simmonds

Aaron Simmonds has a unique perspective on life, demonstrating expert storytelling, whilst packing jokes and opportunities for mirth into every moment.

His comedic style is story-based, with clever one-liners interspersed throughout, offering sharply-observed comedy which is grounded in his disability, but is by no means limited by it.

“Amiable, likeable, and a commanding presence on stage, Aaron Simmonds is an exciting talent”★★★★ Broadway Baby

His credits include Rob Beckett's Undeniable (Comedy Central), The Russell Howard Hour (Sky), BBC At The Edinburgh Festivals (BBC2), The Edinburgh Show (BBC Scotland), BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s Unexpected Fluids podcast and Laura Whitmore’s Sunday Session (BBC Radio 5 Live). He’s also been seen and heard on BBC Three and BBC Radio 4 Extra, and has appeared in a BBC Quickie with Brennan Reece and Rosie Jones. Aaron performed his critically-acclaimed debut show, Disabled Coconut, at the Edinburgh Fringe which was also filmed by NextUp.

“An assured debut from a lover and a fighter” ★★★★ Metro

Aaron also has cerebral palsy and is a professionally-trained personal trainer, as well as a former international basketball player and world champion powerlifter.

Daniel Edison

Snows Comedy Star winner Daniel Edison is a stand-up comedian from the South of England, specialising in one-liners and quickfire puns. Daniel has performed at many prestigious clubs and theatres around the UK and has appeared on TV and radio.

He has appeared on BBC One, he has performed at the BBC New Comedy Award on BBC Radio 4 Extra, and in 2022 he guested as a panellist on BBC Radio Solent’s Christmas Comedy Special and also supported Russell Kane and Katherine Ryan.

“Excellent new comic – confidence of a pro. Much better than I was when I was at his stage” Romesh Ranganathan

Even if you don’t know Daniel, there’s a chance you’ve heard one of his jokes. He’s built a fanbase of 13k followers on X (Twitter) by regularly sharing his original one-liners; several of which have gone viral online and have been featured in such publications and sites as The Reader’s Digest (UK and US editions), Funny or Die, The Poke and many more!

With one-liners and clever wordplay in abundance, he is one of the best and most prolific joke writers out there.

Ben Briggs

Ben Briggs is brash but likeable, honest, razor sharp and at times dark but always very, very funny. Ben has appeared at the Leicester, Nottingham, Birmingham and Edinburgh Comedy festivals wowing all kinds of crowds in the process. He’s got that cheeky swagger with the boy next door charm.
