News Story
Be part of a theatrical adventure that’s bigger, bolder and more brilliant than ever before - a sparkling new production of Cinderella that’s not only a festive highlight but a joyful learning experience with deep educational value.
At its heart, pantomime is about more than fairy godmothers and glass slippers. It’s about confidence, courage, creativity, and connection. That’s why a trip to see Cinderella this Christmas isn’t just a reward or seasonal treat - it’s a powerful opportunity to support student wellbeing, emotional development, and classroom learning in disguise.
A Show Bursting with Talent and Heart
This year’s glittering Bournemouth production is led by a star-studded and education-friendly cast:
- Melanie Walters (Gavin and Stacey) as Fairy Godmother - bringing sparkle, humour and a dash of Welsh wisdom to every wand wave.
- Olivia Birchenough(Milkshake!) as Cinderella – beloved for her warmth, charm, and the magical way she connects with young audiences.
- Noel Brodie returns for his 11th year as the ever-lovable Buttons - a loyal friend, a crowd favourite, and a comic genius.
- Jamie Morris and Tarot Joseph as Melody and Harmony Hard-Up, otherwise known as The Fabulous Sisters - bringing their trademark feathers, fake lashes and fierce one-liners.
All masterfully brought to life with a side-splitting script by award-winning Jon Monie, enhanced with spectacular staging, gorgeous costumes, miniature ponies (yes, really!), and moments that will stay with children long after the curtain falls.
Martin Dodd, Producer, UK Productions said;
“There’s nothing quite like the magic of a child’s first trip to the theatre - it’s not just entertainment; it’s a turning point. Studies have shown that children who experience live performance early in life show increased empathy, stronger literacy, and better behaviour in the classroom. Pantomime, with its music, laughter, and life lessons, is often that first experience - and it stays with them forever. We don’t just want them to enjoy it; we want it to shape how they see the world.”
Why Pantomime Matters – More Than Ever
For many children, pantomime is their first ever trip to the theatre - a milestone moment proven to have a significant long-term impact.
Pantomime brings to life themes and values directly aligned with the Resilience Framework, which supports emotional wellbeing and personal growth in young people. This production of Cinderella explores:
- Courage and voice – Cinderella’s transformation is about more than a dress; it’s about finding her voice and believing in her worth.
- Friendship and loyalty – Buttons shows us what unconditional support looks like, even in the trickiest of times.
- Overcoming adversity – With kindness, cleverness and resilience, Cinderella rises above her circumstances.
- Creativity and problem-solving – A pumpkin into a coach? A wand that changes everything? There’s no limit to what imagination can do.
- Hope and aspiration – Every child deserves to believe they can change their future, no matter where their story begins.
- A sense of belonging – Laughter, shared storytelling and the magic of theatre foster connection and joy - cornerstones of classroom culture.
